Good vs Evil Unicorns
Regarding the following debates
* MOOCs as saviours vs MOOCs as irrelevant
* All online learning vs all face to face
* Learning analytics means no more pesky humans vs
Learning analytics as dehumanised teaching
* Technology as solution for everything vs
Technology offers no help
the author advocates taking the middle road.
But I say, instead of thinking of the issue linearly, try to rise above the debate by thinking in another dimension, like the Hegelian Aufhebung (“synthesis”). Sometimes the issue could be something else, a third factor e.g. school culture, teachers’ attitudes, students’ expectations). This may not solve all our problems, but it brings us to a higher level of understanding, from which we (hopefully) progress towards improvement.
So, is technology good or evil? As usual, the answer is: IT DEPENDS ON HOW YOU USE IT.
